NEW POLICE RECRUITS NOT ENOUGH SAYS THOMAS GEORGE

NEW POLICE RECRUITS NOT ENOUGH SAYS THOMAS GEORGE

27 August 2010

Four new police recruits have been appointed to the Richmond Local Area Command (LAC), Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said today.

Mr George welcomed these recruits as a boost to the command however he said the number of recruits assigned was not nearly enough.

“Being allocated four police to the Richmond Local Area Command is small recognition of the needs of this busy command,” he said.

“This is the fastest growing area of NSW. It’s not truly recognising the growth in this area.

“Part of my area takes in Murwillumbah, which is part of the Tweed-Byron LAC and they received 3. That’s a total of seven new recruits for the northern part of the state.

“I am very concerned when I see the area from Gosford to Tweeds Heads received a total of 40, when Metropolitan commands based in one station alone received up to 18.

“Again the Keneally-Labor Government has ignored the community needs of the North Coast area.

“I urgently call on the premier to have these needs addressed and allocate the additional police required.”
