Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George is disappointed the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Ltd's (CAMS) has decided to relocate the 2011 FIA World Rally Championship from the Northern Rivers to Coffs Harbour.

The decision to relocate the rally, which was held in the Tweed and Kyogle Shires in 2009, and which had been marketed as a 10-year event deal, was announced today by CAMS president Andrew Papadopoulos.

Mr George said he was disappointed by the decision because it will mean a huge economic loss of up to $100 million over the 10-year period to the Northern Rivers region.

"I am also critical of CAMS and I have expressed my concerns to Andrew Papadopoulos, the State Premier and Treasurer," Mr George said.

"CAMS were clearly asked by Events NSW to meet with myself, the Tweed Shire council and Kyogle Council to discuss any concerns over issues which gave consideration of an alternative venue properly addressed.

"I wanted questions answered and we haven't been given the courtesy of that.

"Both councils had committed themselves for the ten-year period and to not even have been offered the courtesy or opportunity to sit down and discuss the perceived concerns associated with the event is a disgrace.

"This is a huge loss to the Northern Rivers. I can't stress enough how disappointed I am in CAMS decision."
