IS YOUR SCHOOL UP FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FUNDING?

Schools with year 5 and 6 students interested in environmental initiatives should apply for a Westpac Junior Landcare Student Sustainability Leadership Grant, says Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George.

Mr George said Landcare Australia was offering grants of $1,500 each, under the Environment Conservation & Heritage category, to help Years 5 and 6 students plan and implement environmental sustainability initiatives.

He said the funding, which will be presented at the beginning of 2011, aims to help students improve their school or local community environment and encourage life-long learning for sustainability.

"In addition, as part of the grant, successful students will also receive mentoring from a local secondary-level student and Landcare Group," Mr George said.

"Projects may address a range of areas including reducing energy and water consumption, reducing waste and greenhouse gas production, and improving water harvesting and quality, through to increased biodiversity and restoration."

Applications close 10 December 2010.
