Three local conservation groups from the Lismore electorate have been successful in receiving grants from the NSW Environmental Trust, Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George announced today.

The trust was established in 1998 to support exceptional environmental projects that do not receive funds from the usual government sources.

Mr George said the local recipients were the Big Scrub Rainforest Landcare Group, Nimbin Rocks Cooperative Landcare Group and the Nature Conservation Trust of New South Wales.

The Big Scrub Rainforest Landcare Group received $100,000 for rehabilitating border ranges endangered lowland rainforest.

This multi- partner project involves controlling threats posed by weeds to the survival of endangered lowland rainforest at 55 remnants (39 in the Big Scrub) identified as priority repair sits in the Border Ranges Rainforest Biodiversity Management Plan.

The Nimbin Rocks Cooperative Landcare Group have been awarded $96,902 for a project entitled Protection of biodiversity Goolmangar Creek.

This three-year project will engage professional bush regenerators to control invasive environmental weeds on Goolmangar Creek including targeting vines such as madeira and cats claw creeper.

The Nature Conservation Trust of New South Wales (NCT) received $99,948 for a project entitled Restoring High Conservation Value Habitats and Corridors in North Eastern NSW.

This project involves partnership between NCT, EnviTE Environment and landholders. Together with community education, it will restore habitat for threatened flora, fauna and ecosystems.

"Congratulations to all three groups," Mr George said. "This funding should help their respective projects and ultimately the maintaining and improving of our precious environment here on the Northern Rivers."
