GEORGE ISSUES CARBON TAX CHALLENGE TO POLL RIVALS

1st March 2011

Nationals MP Thomas George is demanding the Lismore Electorate candidates state their positions on the Gillard Government’s new carbon tax.

“The new Labor/Greens carbon tax will add $300 or more to the average annual household power bill and 6 cents for every litre of petrol,” Mr George said.

“This will wipe out the $200 electricity rebate that NSW Coalition Leader Barry O’Farrell has announced.

“The Labor and Greens candidates for Lismore are perfectly entitled to support their parties with this new tax but they need to be upfront with the pensioners who are going to be the ones hardest hit.”

“We don’t want a repeat of the situation where Ms Gillard said she was against a carbon tax before the election, but once she was safely re-elected she supported it.”

“Kristina Keneally, the Labour Party and the Greens support this new tax.

The NSW Liberals and the National's have a clear position. We will fight Labor's carbon tax and the pressure it will add to power prices. Today, Mr O'Farrell, the Leader of the Coalition said we will establish a full independent judicial inquiry to get to the bottom of Labor's bungled and dishonest power sell-off," Mr George said.
