A NSW Government grant will provide Nimbin and surrounding towns with additional bus services to support the communities' access to employment and essential services, Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George announced today.

"This initiative will provide an opportunity for people working in Lismore or Nimbin to commute on a regular bus service that will better meet their needs. It will also allow students studying at Southern Cross University to access a late afternoon service to return home after classes," Mr George said.

"The Liberal Nationals Government has listened to what the community has had to say about bus services in the region, and are supporting a trial to provide greater access to the things the community needs to do."

Mr George said it is envisaged the services will be well patronised as a result of over 300 survey responses showing a need for the additional bus runs.

"The NSW Government grant will support the project for 12 months, providing the opportunity to the community to travel daily between Nimbin and Lismore."

The Government is providing $45,000 towards the total cost of $57,000 with additional support being provided by the Nimbin Neighbourhood & Information Centre and Waller's Bus Company.

This project is an excellent example of how the NSW Government can work together with the local government and non-government sectors to benefit local communities in NSW.

"It is one of many local initiatives that are being rolled-out across the state as part of the NSW Government's support for local and community transport solutions," Mr George said.
