Sports clubs in the Lismore region are being encouraged to sign up for an advanced workshop on sports taping to help them treat and prevent common injuries.

Nationals Member for Lismore, Thomas George, said sports taping involves strapping joints with adhesive tape and can help to prevent injuries from occurring or reoccurring.

“Sports taping is a very useful treatment for athletes from a wide range of sports,” Mr George said.

Sport and Recreation will host a Level 2 Sports Taping workshop at Lismore Netball Clubhouse, Ballina St, Lismore on Wednesday 8 June from 6pm to 9pm.

This workshop focuses on taping of the knee and shoulder along with advanced anatomy, injury prevention and support.

Completion of the Level 1 Sports Taping workshop is a pre-requisite.

The comprehensive workshop includes a combination of theory and practical sessions and a certificate of attendance is awarded to all participants who successfully complete the course.

“It is conducted by a qualified and experienced physiotherapist.

“This is an excellent opportunity for people in Lismore wanting to boost their knowledge of advanced strapping procedures.

“I strongly encourage local coaches, parents and teachers involved in community or school sport to come along and learn a very valuable skill,” Mr George said.

Places are limited and bookings are essential.

The cost of the workshop is $70 which includes all tape, resources and supper.
