Thomas George, Nationals Member for Lismore, announced applications are open for two key grant programs – the Sport and Recreation Participation Program and the Sport and Athlete Development Program.

Mr George said, “Increasing participation in sport and active recreation is something I’m very passionate about, and these programs assist community based organisations and state sporting organisations to increase opportunities.”

The NSW Government’s Sport and Recreation Participation Program (SRPP) provides funding for local initiatives that help more people to be active on a regular basis.

The SRPP program focuses on helping people who often face barriers to participation in mainstream sport. (eg indigenous, disability, refugees, rural and remote).

“Not-for-profit sport clubs, community groups and local government associations can apply for grants of up to $10,000 each,” Mr George said. Applications close on 25 August for the NSW Government’s Sport and Recreation Participation Program.

Mr George also announced the opening of the Sport and Athlete Development Program.

“This program invests in innovative projects which boost the capacity of the NSW sports industry by increasing opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, sports leaders and volunteers,” Mr George said.

Eligible state sporting organisations, state wide sector groups and peak bodies are invited to apply for Sport and Athlete Development Program grants and have until 18 August to submit applications.

Funding will go to projects which support the development of sport professionals and volunteers, help reduce barriers to participation and encourage the industry to grow.

“I strongly urge all interested groups to lodge an application," Mr George said.
