Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George today announced that funding under the NSW Government 2011-12 Sport and Recreation Participation Program would see $800,000 in grants provided to local projects across the state for the purpose of getting more people playing sport.

"I am delighted to see the following organisations will be receiving assistance as they do a fantastic job for the local community.

Far North Coast Hockey

Regional/remote participation program

Coordination Cooperative

Participating in physical activity, reducing social isolation and encouraging a sense of belonging

Lismore PCYC

Special needs Judo program and competitions

“Increasing participation in sport and physical activity is a key priority for the NSW Government and grassroots projects run in local communities are a great way to target people and groups that need a little extra help to participate in sport,” Mr George said.

“The Sport and Recreation Participation Program provides direct financial support to organisations and people at the coalface of community sport,” Mr George said.

“People with a disability can face difficulties when it comes to participation in sport and recreation and this funding will assist in providing direct support to projects that look to break down those barriers.

“Projects that help people with a disability get involved in sport have the potential to make a real, meaningful difference in people’s lives.

“This is another excellent example of the NSW Government working with the local community to ensure the best possible outcomes for the people of the electorate,” Mr George said.
