LISMORE ELECTORATE RESIDENTS INVITED TO HAVE THEIR SAY AT FORUM FOR NSW LONG TERM TRANSPORT MASTER PLAN

Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George today encouraged local residents, businesses and other organisations to have their say on the future of transport in NSW, as the NSW Government develops the NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan.

Mr George said Transport for NSW has published a discussion paper and is calling for submissions as part of the development of the Plan, to be released later this year.

Transport for NSW will also seek public feedback on Northern Rivers transport at a public forum to be held on Wednesday 21 March 2012, 6pm to 8pm at Lismore City Hall.

Mr George said the Minister for Roads and Ports, The Hon Duncan Gay, and Transport for NSW representatives will attend the forum to listen to the communities’ views.

“The NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan will identify a clear direction for transport over the next 20 years, building on current commitments which are underpinned by a record $13.1 billion investment in roads and transport in the 2011-12 budget,” Mr George said.

“NSW faces many challenges, such as population growth, increasing housing supply and the need to create more jobs. This growth places pressure on the transport system and that means NSW must plan for the future now.

“I encourage residents, businesses and other organisations in the electorate to have their say.”

Those wishing to attend the forum should RSVP by 14 March by emailing their details to masterplan@transport.nsw.gov.au or by calling 8202 2611.

To make a submission and to view the discussion paper visit www.transportmasterplan.nsw.gov.au. Submissions close on 27 April.

Following the release of the NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan, Transport for NSW will develop regional transport plans.
