Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said more than $44,000 in funds has been made available for restoration works and upgrades at three showgrounds in the Lismore electorate.

“The funds are being made available in a combination of grants and loans to the Murwillumbah, Woodenbong and Bonalbo Showgrounds for ongoing development and maintenance,” Mr George said.

“The Murwillumbah Showground Trust has been offered $31,180 in funds that will go towards the repair and restoration of the historic grandstand at the showground.”

“Bonalbo Showground Trust has been offered $8,618 in funds for upgrading kitchen facilities.

“Woodenbong Showground will be given a $5,140 grant to purchase six sets of showjumping panels,” he said.

Mr George said these showgrounds are cultural touchstones for regional and rural towns and host agricultural shows and other events that bring the community together.

“They are wonderful assets valued by the local community,” Mr George said.

“This funding has been made available through the Public Reserves Management Fund managed by the Crown Lands division of the Department of Primary Industries.”

“The fund provides for improvements and new works at Crown land reserves, parks, showgrounds, caravan parks and walking tracks,” he said.

The total showground budget this financial year is $1 million, a $250,000 increase over the previous year.
