Aboriginal people across NSW will be able to have their say on proposed reforms to aboriginal policy at a series of community forums, Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said today.

The Ministerial Taskforce on Aboriginal Affairs will hold nine community forums, including in Lismore, in August and September for people to have their say on specific ideas under consideration by the taskforce.

“The NSW Government is committed to working in partnership with Aboriginal people, which means listening to and learning from Aboriginal communities,” Mr George said.

“At the beginning of the year the taskforce held community forums and received thousands of comments on how the Government can improve outcomes for Aboriginal communities in areas of education and training, employment and service delivery.

“Over the last six months the development of several proposals has occurred and the taskforce is going back out for a second round of consultations so people can comment,” Mr George said.

A local forum will be held in Lismore on Wednesday 29 August at the Lismore Workers Club from 11am-3pm.
