FAMILIES URGED TO CELEBRATE GRANDPARENTS DAY
Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George has urged families to get involved in Grandparents Day activities in the local community this Sunday 28 October to recognise and celebrate the contribution grandparents make to family life and the broader community.
“Grandparents play an invaluable role in families. They enrich the lives of their grandchildren and other children in the community by providing care, mentoring and stability,” Mr George said.
“I encourage all local families to get involved by planning their own get together at home, visit their grandparents or even give them a call to let them know how much they mean to them and to thank them for all the help they have provided over the years.”
“Grandparents are the unsung heroes in our community, so it is fitting they are recognised with a day in their honour.
“The role of grandparents is more varied and diverse than ever before, with increasing numbers providing informal care and formal out-of-home care.
"NSW Grandparents Day provides the opportunity to promote the value of grandparenting throughout NSW, acknowledging the contribution of grandparents and encouraging them to pass on their knowledge.
"As a grandparent, I am looking forward to spending time with my grandchildren this weekend," Mr George said.
