The Hon Andrew Stoner MP and the Hon Thomas George, Member for Lismore have today announced a one off grant of $2,640 for the Murwillumbah Showground Reserve Trust, as the corporate Trust Managers of the Showground, from the Natural Disaster Relief Scheme.
Mr George said The Natural Disaster Relief Scheme provides funds from the Commonwealth and NSW Treasury for repairs to rectify damage caused by declared natural disasters, including floods and bushfires. This includes grants for damage to property on Crown reserves.
Grants are made available to trusts that do not have the financial capability to meet the costs from their own resources, provided the facilities concerned are Public Assets.
Flooding events occurred within NSW in December 2010, January 2012 and February/March 2012 causing damage within multiple LGAs. As a result of these floods many Crown Lands reserves were damaged.
During the January 2012 flood, Murwillumbah Showground was damaged which left a considerable amount of debris throughout the reserve and damage to the electrical systems. Mr George said the grant will enable the Murwillumbah Showground Reserve Trust to clean up the debris and restore the electrical systems to a safe working level.
