TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEER MANAGERS AVAILABLE IN LISMORE
Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said local residents will be able to attend subsidised training courses in volunteer management in Lismore, as part of the NSW Government’s plan to improve volunteer support and development.
“The Government has subsidised 200 places at Way2Go courses across the state, with 10 spots available to local residents in the Lismore area, bringing the cost per place down to $75 from $275,” Mr George said.
“Way2Go Volunteer Management Training helps volunteer managers create and deliver volunteer-led projects. One of the great things about the course is participants receive a take-home package they can use to train other staff.
“Government funding is also provided to annually update training material that is then made available to past participants, so they can continue to benefit from new ideas and resources.
“More than 500 participants have already completed the training from backgrounds as diverse as Meals on Wheels, Foodbank as well as health services, religious groups, sporting clubs, community organisations and schools.
Mr George said Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello, who has responsibility for volunteering, recently released the Report on Recognition of Volunteer Rights and outlined the first steps in the Government’s plan to improve dignity and respect for volunteers.
“The report found that volunteers need better management and I’m excited that training is available in our local community.
“Volunteers contribute a vital service to our society and it’s essential they are treated with fairness, respect and dignity.
“The Report on Recognition of Volunteer Rights is based on the views and suggestions of nearly 1,000 volunteers engaged in an extensive community consultation process.”
The report contains key principles that will help encourage greater community understanding and formal recognition of the rights of volunteers and how they should be treated.
