$22,500 WORTH OF SHOWGROUND UPGRADES
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Services Andrew Stoner and Member for Lismore Thomas George have announced grants worth a total of $22,595 for local showground upgrades and maintenance works.
The funds have been made available under the NSW Government’s 2013/14 Public Reserves Management Fund (PRMF) Supplementary Showgrounds Round.
Mr George was pleased the region was able to share in this supplementary round of the PRMF, which was dedicated to the development, maintenance and improvement of showgrounds.
“The Lismore electorate’s public reserves have already benefited well from last year’s generous PRMF program, with more than $280,000 worth of funds finding their way to our community halls, clubs and showgrounds,” Mr George said.
“These new, extra grants offered to local showground managers will be used to make much-needed improvements to infrastructure and amenities, and include:
- $7,680 to Woodenbong Showground for showground maintenance and enhancement of toilet facilities;
- $6,500 to Kyogle Showground for urgent maintenance and improvement to roofs of showground pavilions;
- and $8,415 to Bonalbo Showground for upgrade of electricity supply and lighting in the produce pavilion.”
Mr Stoner said the NSW Liberal & Nationals Government was committed to rebuilding regional infrastructure, as demonstrated through last year’s record PRMF spend.
“The PRMF allocated $23.6 million to Crown reserves across the state, which included $2 million for iconic regional showground improvements,” Mr Stoner said.
“I am glad the additional showground funding announced today will continue to support improvements to these local reserves.
“Showgrounds are wonderful assets valued by the local community and their ongoing success is vital to local sports and activities, business and tourism in regional towns.”
