COMMUNITY ENCOURAGED TO PAY TRIBUTE TO RETIRING GOVERNOR DAME MARIE BASHIR
Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George today encouraged the community to pay personal tribute to Her Excellency Professor The Honourable Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO who retires on 1 October 2014.
A tribute book has been set up at the Lismore Electorate Office.
The tribute book will be available until Sunday 21 September 2014.
“Dame Marie is the second longest serving Governor of New South Wales in our 226 year history having served since 2001,” Mr George said.
“Dame Marie is truly the People’s Governor and a remarkable Australian.
“I also pay particular tribute to Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE for all his tireless work alongside Dame Marie over the years.
“I was honoured to be present representing the electorate this week as the Governor gave her final address to the NSW Parliament.
“Dame Marie has visited Lismore a number of times. She was always very generous with her time and loved to get out amongst the community and talk to everyday people about their lives.
“I encourage the public to pay their personal tribute to a remarkable individual who has served this State with distinction, dignity, humility and respect,” Mr George said.
