Today Member for Lismore Thomas George said recent meetings he organised between government departments, Police, community organisations, and other community leaders enabled cooperation and information shared has assisted police in making arrests last night.

“This meeting was unanimous in its resolve to make it clear to the Goonellabah community that this antisocial behaviour is unacceptable, and each of the organisations had agreed to work together to reclaim the area as a safe place to live, visit, shop, and work,” Mr George said.

“It is quite clear there were a very small number of repeat offenders who are well known to Police causing this disruption to our community, which our community will not accept.

“These offenders were able to evade capture until last night, but we were able to implement measures that ensure those people threatening the safety, peace, and wellbeing of members in our community were caught, and I thank Police, first and foremost, for their fast response in putting this matter to rest.

“I again thank the Police and all the organisations involved for their cooperation and support in the work against this antisocial behaviour, again indicating to the community that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
