UPGRADES FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS
Member for Lismore Thomas George today announced the NSW Government will upgrade facilities at four local schools.
Mr George and Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli visited Richmond River High School, which will have its canteen refurbished, to make the announcement.
“These are upgrades that many parents have wanted for some time,” Mr George said.
“Upgrades at other schools include a canteen refurbishment at Dungay Public School, and upgraded toilet facilities at Blakebrook and Modanville Public Schools.
“I am proud that the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will deliver these upgrades that will greatly benefit the schools. This builds on a strong record of achievement, with public schools in the Lismore electorate receiving a total of $38.4 million in school capital works and maintenance since March 2011.
“Investing in public education is vital for our children’s future. In 2015 alone schools in the Lismore electorate have received $9 million in needs-based funding, a lot of which is a result of the NSW Government signing the Gonski school funding agreement.”
Mr Piccoli said the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has committed almost $3.2 billion to school infrastructure and maintenance in the last four years.
“In our first term of government 18 new or relocated public schools have been funded and 44 major upgrade projects have been announced,” Mr Piccoli said.
“The NSW Government has also announced funding for an additional 694 additional permanent classroom spaces, reducing the need for demountables.
“These projects will deliver more than 10,000 net additional public school places for schools across the State.
“The NSW Government is determined to provide the best learning environments possible in our schools,” Mr Piccoli said.
