TENTERFIELD SHIRE COUNCIL TO BUILD NEW COMMUNITY RECYCLING CENTRE FOR RESIDENTS WITH $175,784 GRANT FROM THE NSW GOVERNMENT

Member for Lismore Thomas George today announced that Tenterfield Shire Council will receive a $175,784 grant from the NSW Government’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative to build a Community Recycling Centre for the safe disposal and recovery of household problem wastes.

The new centre will be built at the Tenterfield Waste Transfer Station and will include the construction of a shed with a segregated undercover drive-through storage facility to allow residents to safely dispose of their problem wastes.

“This new community recycling centre will be open all year round and will provide a welcome service for 7,000 residents to drop off problem waste that cannot be put in the kerbside bins including paints, oils, batteries, gas cylinders, smoke detectors and fluorescent lights for free,” Mr George said.

“It will build on the existing Chemical CleanOut events, that collect an average of 872,000kg of problem waste each year, by providing a permenant and convenient drop-off centre to manage these wastes for specialist disposal or recycling.

“This will enhance our efforts to reduce the amount of waste that we send to landfill and increase our recycling capacity.”

“Through Waste Less Recycle More, the NSW Government has dedicated $250 million to improving waste and recycling infrastructure and establishing these new centres will enable improved household recycling.”
