2015 FAIR TRADING WEEK ASK FAIR TRADING: 10,000,000 CUSTOMERS CAN’T BE WRONG
Thomas George, Member for Lismore is today encouraging residents to be more aware of their rights as consumers ahead of the commencement of the 15th annual Fair Trading Week.
2015 Fair Trading Week, which runs from 2-6 November across NSW, aims to raise awareness about the role Fair Trading plays in the marketplace on behalf of both consumers and traders across local communities.
“Fair Trading provides consumer advice on a wide range of issues from dealing with unsolicited salespeople to your rights when asking for a refund,” Mr George said.
“This year, Fair Trading is celebrating its milestone 10 millionth call to the Fair Trading contact centre, one of the over 900,000 calls Fair Trading takes every year.
“NSW Fair Trading also receives over 45,000 complaints each year and last financial year received nearly 7 million service requests from the public.
“This year the NSW Government announced the creation of a consumer complaints register, which will open up Fair Trading’s complaints data to the public to enable them to make more informed decisions about the traders they deal with in the marketplace.
“Whether you are experiencing difficulty in receiving a refund, need to renew your occupational licence or need to pay your rental bond, NSW Fair Trading is there to help”, Mr George said.
“There have also been reforms to residential parks laws, motor vehicle dealers and repairers and broad ranging real estate changes including tougher laws to stamp out underquoting,” Mr George said.
“It’s important that both consumers and traders are aware of these changes and participating in one of these free community events is a great way to ensure you’re informed.”
