KYOGLE COUNCIL WINS $69,360 TO BUILD COMMUNITY RESILIENCE TO CLIMATE CHANGE

Member for Lismore Thomas George has announced $69,360 in NSW Government funding for Kyogle Council to address climate change in the local community.

The funding is part of the Building Resilience to Climate Change Program, which supports local action to deal with climate change risks and vulnerabilities.

“Local councils have a significant frontline role in managing the risks of climate change in their communities so those communities are resilient to the effects of climate change,” Mr George said.

“Kyogle Council is building resilience in the community to the risks and vulnerabilities of climate change and will work with other government bodies in responding to this critically important issue.

“The Solar Powered Destratification System project for enhancing off-stream water storage will receive $69,360.

“The project will address the risks of algal blooms in town water supplies due to increasing temperatures, by using renewable and off-grid power to aerate and improve the water quality of off stream storages.”

Environment Minister Mark Speakman said local councils have a significant role in managing the risks of climate change in their communities so that those communities are resilient to the effects of climate change.

“Building Resilience to Climate Change projects will shared across 39 local government organisations in NSW.

“Fostering adaptation action at a local level helps all of NSW build adaptive capacity by creating networks between community organisations, local councils and business and the NSW Government.”

The funding is part of a $457,830 package for eight projects by NSW councils.
