Member for Lismore Thomas George MP has called on local builders and not for profit groups to come forward with proposals to deliver much needed new social and affordable housing in our local area.

“The NSW Government’s promised billion dollar social housing fund is today open for business and 30 per cent of the new homes it will fund will be in regional NSW.

“The Social and Affordable Housing Fund is a great initiative of the NSW Government and allows local communities to address local needs for vulnerable families and individuals.

“The Fund aims to generate access to at least 3000 new social and affordable homes across the State.

“Organisations which can also provide land for projects are especially welcome as that helps the Social and Affordable Housing Fund deliver the biggest bang for the buck and help the most number of vulnerable people into housing.”

Organisations eligible to apply include community housing providers, local government, the private sector and not for profits including faith based organisations, community organisations, landholders, developers, builders and financiers.

Organisations are encouraged to form together to apply as a consortia to ensure that new housing is accompanied by people with the skills and services necessary to successfully manage social and affordable housing.

Invitations for expression of interest proposals are now open, and close on Tuesday, 15 March. More information on the SAHF can be found at
