LISMORE HERO NOMINATED FOR 2016 NSW WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Member for Lismore Thomas George has congratulated Mrs Jodie McRae from Lismore on being named a finalist for the 2016 Rex Airlines Regional Woman of the Year Award.
“From a field of close to 250 nominees across all categories, Jodie’s significant contribution in fundraising, awareness and giving emotional guidance to cancer suffers has seen her join three other finalists for the Rex Airlines Regional Woman of the Year,” Mr George said.
“While still fighting her own battle with cancer, Jodie has founded Jodie’s Inspiration, a not-for-profit organisation which raised over $100,000 in her first fundraiser enabling two cold cap therapy machines to be purchased for a local oncology unit so that patients are given the opportunity to prevent chemotherapy hair loss.
“She is truly an inspiration and a role model for us all.”
The 2016 NSW Women of the Year Awards are a chance for the NSW Government and the community to officially recognise the outstanding contribution of exceptional women in NSW.
Nominees for the 2016 NSW Women of the Year fall into five categories – the Premier’s Award for Women of the Year, Harvey Norman Young Women of the Year, A.H. Beard Community Hero, REX Airlines Regional Woman of the Year and NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year.
Mr George said too often successful women don’t get the recognition that they deserve, particularly for those in the field of volunteering.
“These awards are our chance to honour some of the many women, like Jodie, who have contributed so much to this state and to their local community,” Mr George said.
“I urge everyone in the local community to get behind Jodie and the other amazing women in the other categories and to cast their vote.”
Online voting ends Sunday 28 February 2016. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in NSW Parliament House on 9 March.
