INSPIRATIONAL LISMORE MUM ANNOUNCED NSW REGIONAL WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Member for Lismore Thomas George today congratulated Lismore’s Jodie McRae on being voted the 2016 Rex Airlines Regional Woman of the Year in the NSW Women of the Year Awards.
Mr George said it was fantastic to see Jodie being publically recognised for her tireless fundraising and relentless public education that has assisted North Coast women in the early detection of breast cancer.
“The NSW Women of the Year Awards honour women who have made an outstanding contribution to this state and local community,” Mr George said.
Mr George said Jodie owns five successful small businesses in Lismore and surrounding areas.
“In 2013 Jodie was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of triple negative breast cancer in 2013 and then secondary breast cancer in 2014,” Mr George said.
“Despite her prognosis Jodie she has used her entrepreneurial skills to found Jodie’s Inspiration, a not-for-profit organisation that at the first fundraiser raised more than $100,000 to purchase essential equipment for the local oncology unit. She truly is an inspiration to us all.”
The award was presented today by Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Women Pru Goward at a special reception at Parliament House.
Now in their fifth year, the NSW Women of the Year Awards received a record 331 nominations and over 12,900 people cast their vote for their NSW woman of the year in 2016.
