Visual artists at the start of their careers are being urged to apply for the NSW Government’s 2016 Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship that will provide $30,000 for a program of professional development.

Member for Lismore Thomas George encouraged local visual artists to apply for the fellowship that will enable recipients to undertake activities including travel, mentorships, internships, courses, research and creating new works.

“The NSW Government is proud to offer this fellowship as part of our commitment to supporting the professional development of artists in NSW,” Mr George said.

“Supporting artists across all art forms is a key part of our Government’s Create in NSW 10-year policy framework to grow a thriving, globally connected arts and cultural sector.”

A shortlist of up to 12 artists will be selected by an independent panel of peers managed by Arts NSW to participate in an exhibition at Artspace, Sydney from 8 November to 10 December 2016.

“This is an excellent opportunity for a local emerging visual artist to gain recognition for their work, exhibit in an internationally recognised arts centre, and receive support for their professional development,” Mr George said.

Applications for the 2016 fellowship open on Wednesday, 30 March and close at 5pm on Monday, 9 May. For more information including details on how to apply, visit www.arts.nsw.gov.au.
