Northern Rivers Echo
The show season continues. Congratulations to President John Gibson, Secretary Molly Patch and the hard working committee, stewards and workers who made the 2016 North Coast National another success. The traditional agricultural exhibitors and new performers and ideas was great a mix.
As Patron I look forward to attending Alstonville Show this weekend.
I am thrilled the Container Deposit Scheme legislation passed through the Parliament last week.
This means from 1 July 2017 people in NSW will be able to return empty prescribed beverage containers between 150 ml and three litres to collection points for a 10-cent refund.
The Waste and Resource Recovery Amendment (Container Deposit Scheme) Act 2016 paves the way for a cost-effective, best-practice scheme that will benefit both the community and the environment.
NSW was the first state to sign the Gonski agreement and Northern Rivers public schools will benefit from a share of the record in additional needs-based funding in 2017.
In 2017 public schools in the Lismore electorate will receive $3,390,513 in additional needs-based funding.
The NSW Government is delivering on its commitment to deliver additional school funding based on student need.
These extra resources go directly to our schools allowing principals to better meet the unique needs of their students and the school community.
