CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY AT BONALBO MPS PROJECT

Member for Lismore Thomas George today officially turned the ‘first sod’ of earth in a ceremonial gesture to mark the start of early works on the new Bonalbo Multi-Purpose Service (MPS).

The early construction works package, which has been awarded to Decmil Australia Pty Ltd, will include the demolition of the existing Community Health building along with civil and infrastructure diversions and upgrades on the current site.

Community Services have relocated to the main hospital building, making way for the old community health building to be demolished.

“A new MPS will provide flexible services to better respond to the health needs of our community,” Mr George said.

“New building construction is set to commence in early 2017, following the demolition of the old community health building, with the new MPS anticipated to be completed by mid-2018.”

“I thank the Northern NSW Local Health District and Executive Director Lynne Weir for the extensive and thorough community consultation which has taken place over the last two years,”

The old existing hospital will be replaced by the state-of-the-art Bonalbo MPS and is proposed to include:

The Bonalbo MPS project is part of a $300 million program of works to upgrade existing or build new MPS facilities in rural and remote communities across NSW. The MPS model tailors healthcare needs for the local community by integrating health, aged care services and emergency services to provide flexible health service delivery - from primary health care to acute and residential aged care.

Access to the existing hospital and Caroona will be maintained throughout the construction period.
