Lismore has again greatly benefited from NSW Government funding.
Pedestrian safety work will be carried out at Lismore South Public School, Kadina High School, Dunoon Public School and Trinity Catholic College including fencing, signage, kerb extensions and road markings.
We all have a role to play when it comes to pedestrian safety, particularly when it comes to the safety around schools. School children are some of the most vulnerable people using the road, which is why we have targeted safety programs such as school zone flashing lights, pedestrian crossings and fencing to keep children safe going to and from school.
Lismore City Council will also receive $1.1 million for improvements to the cycleway and shared path network.
The funding is aimed at improving connectivity for the local community and getting more people out of their cars and provide convenient and safer infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians.
It's been a very busy year and without the help and support of the good people of this region, we could not have achieved the results we have.
But with the festive season upon us, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and holy Christmas.
Christmas is a wonderful time to relax and reflect with family and friends. It is also a time to acknowledge the support and time given by the many emergency services personnel and volunteers who work so diligently to protect our area.
We are lucky to live in such a glorious part of the world and as others come to visit and share in its beauty, please take extra care to ensure a safe holiday season, especially whilst out and about on the roads and in the water.
May the peace and joy of Christmas be with you at this time and trust we will all be blessed with good health and happiness in 2017.
