It was great this week to be part of events for the inaugural Back to Business Week in Lismore, Kyogle, Murwillumbah & Tenterfield.

NSW is a powerhouse of opportunity, and with almost 98 per cent of all businesses in this state run as small businesses, we have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for.

Newly appointed Business Connect advisers have been lending a hand by providing low-cost, independent, experienced advice as part of the events, seminars and workshops during the week.

Last week in Parliament significant changes were made to the NSW Retail Leases Act, which will help create stronger and fairer relationships between tenants and landlords in the retail industry.

The NSW Government has been working hard to reduce red tape, simplify the costs of leasing and ensure transparent compliance terms for retail businesses.

These landmark reforms mean that local retailers will see increased transparency and certainty when it comes to striking a fair agreement with a landlord.

Local tenants will also see more protections including the return of bank guarantees and registration of leases, as well as a more simplified process when transferring a retail lease.
