CELEBRATING WOMEN IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT
The achievements, commitment and passion of women in NSW councils were celebrated yesterday as part of the tenth annual Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government.
Maree Brennan from Kyogle Council received a Highly Commended in the Women in a Non-Traditional Role – Rural or Regional Council category at a ceremony at NSW Parliament House, Member for Lismore, Thomas George said today.
“This is an outstanding achievement – I congratulate Maree for her commitment and contribution to her community,” Mr George said.
“These awards are an opportunity to put a spotlight on some of the many achievements of women working in councils.”
Maree is a Geographical Information Systems and Project Officer with Kyogle Council. It is known as a male dominated occupation but Maree’s determination and skills pushed open any doors that tried to shut her out.
Maree embraces new ideas and technology and is renowned for following projects through to completion. She has proved adept at bringing community engagement into funding opportunities that will benefit the community. Her decisions are always impartial and made in the best interests of the community.
The Awards were established in 2008 to recognise the outstanding contributions and achievements of women in local government in NSW.
