More than 500 staff who work in Visitor Information Centres across NSW will be trained in the latest customer service techniques thanks to a NSW Government program to help promote rural and regional NSW.

Member for Lismore Thomas George said the workshops were developed by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, in collaboration with TAFENSW.

“We are delighted to be providing our Visitor Information Centres with the right tools to deliver high-quality service for the people visiting the region,” Mr George said.

“Our beautiful region has so much on offer and this fantastic program will offer staff the must-know tips and insights to deliver great visitor experiences. I encourage everyone to take part and register soon for this wonderful opportunity.”

The workshops are free and open to all Visitor Information Centre staff, whether they work full-time, part-time, as a casual or as a volunteer.

“The NSW Government is delivering a tourism bonanza for rural and regional areas so we want to make sure we provide crucial training for our local advocates and equip them to educate travellers and promote their regions,” Mr George said.

“Growing tourism in rural and regional areas is a top priority for the NSW Government, we know how vital the industry is to local communities and we’ve committed record funding to help grow local visitor economies.”
