Last week saw the official opening of the Paediatrics Ward at Lismore Base Hospital and the new base for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. As a patron of Our Kids and a past director of the helicopter, I know how invaluable these two wonderful health facilities are, not only Lismore, but the Northern Rivers region. I was honoured to have the Hon Brad Hazzard, Minister for Health, here to officiate at these events.
I was pleased to announce recently that Northern Rivers Conservatorium was successful in its application for $221,088 from the NSW Government for improvements to access to its historic building through the installation of a lift servicing all three floors, internal ramps and upgrade of amenities.
Currently, any members of the community with limited mobility through disability, old-age, ill-health or injury are only able to access the ground floor of the Conservatorium, so this will make a huge difference for these people.
The Local Sport Grant Program is now open for applications and will close 6 October 2017. The program will provide $50,000 grass roots sports clubs projects, with individual grants of up to $20,000 available.
In particular this year the NSW Government is encouraging clubs to invest in programs that help support girls and young women, to address to a drop off in participation amongst teenage girls.
The Safe Shooting Program is also is open for applications and will close 28 October 2016. This program is to increase safety at shooting facilities in NSW as well as during club sponsored activities held away from a club’s permanent base.
