FINANCIAL SECURITY FOR BONALBO MPS
Member for Lismore Thomas George has today restated his support for the Northern NSW Health District’s (NNSWLHD) ability to manage the future budgetary requirements of the new, state of the art Bonalbo Multi-Purpose Service (MPS).
Northern NSW Local Heath District operates three MPS services with Bonalbo being the fourth, all of which are funded based on the community needs through State and Federal Government grants. The operating budget for the Bonalbo MPS has been developed based on the NNSWLHD’s extensive experience with the other MPS services at Nimbin, Kyogle and Urbenville.
Kyogle Mayor Danielle Mulholland has questioned the ongoing funding commitments and operating budget. This follows the Emergency Department and clinic consultation rooms becoming operational on Wednesday.
Mr George said, “I question the motivation behind these queries considering the NSW Government has clearly stated funding for the state-of-the-art MPS will directly reflect the services it provide once it’s fully operational.”
“I am proud to have advocated, alongside the community, for this vital service which directly supports the health and wellbeing of all Bonalbo residents. It is a shame that individuals feel the need to play politics,” Mr George said.
The NSW Government has consulted with the community to ensure this facility services the needs of the region long into the future. The facility will consist of 24-hour emergency department, inpatient beds, 15 residential aged care beds, consultation rooms, allied and community health services and staff accommodation.
“To date, I have not received any correspondence regarding the ongoing budget of Bonalbo MPS. If Councilors or community members have questions or concerns about this facility, I would encourage them to contact my office.” Mr George said.
