This week has been one of reflection for all of us, as we remember the devastation caused by Cyclone Debbie twelve months ago. I know many people are still recovering but I think it is important to say the city of Lismore has never looked better. Businesses have refurbished, homes have been rebuilt and there’s a sense of optimism in town about the future.
I want to thank everyone who has been involved in the recovery effort and look forward to working with to take the electorate forward.
Inroads have been made to address issues with youth homelessness. Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward spent the day in the electorate announcing three important initiatives including a $1.5 million program to provide crisis and transitional accommodation to approximately 92 young people in the Northern NSW Family and Community Services (FACS) District.
The announcement comes on top of a commitment that Rent Choice Youth, a rental assistance subsidy for up to three years to young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are at risk of homelessness, would be made available to young people in Northern NSW.
