THOMAS GEORGE HELPS HEALTHY HAROLD DELIVER VITAL CHILDHOOD HEALTH AND SAFETY EDUCATION TO THE LISMORE ELECTORATE
Healthy Harold the giraffe is well known among children in the Lismore electorate as a regular feature in local schools, teaching students about the benefits of healthy lifestyles.
Now the more than 6,000 children in the Lismore electorate who visit Life Education NSW each year will have access to new technology, thanks to a grant given to the organisation.
This follows the support of Lismore MP Thomas George who recently assisted health and safety education provider Life Education with a Community Building Partnership grant of $5000 to install an E-smart touchscreen monitor in the For North Coast Richmond Life Education van.
This week Mr George visited Blue Hills College (Jnr) in Goonellabah to see the touch screen in action, by taking a tour in the Life Education van and meeting local teachers and students.
Mr George said the new technology would allow Life Education to continue its important work in the community, delivering vital health and safety messages to local children in an exciting and engaging way.
“Many children have fond memories of Healthy Harold from school and I am delighted that as the Local Member of Parliament, I can now support Life Education to continue the good work it does,” Mr George said.
“Teaching children through interactive games and lessons ensures they retain these important messages and are able to make safe and healthy choices now and in the future, which benefits our community as a whole.”
Life Education NSW chief executive Kellie Sloane said that the support of the NSW Government has been vital in enabling Life Education, through the installation of new Esmart touch screen monitor, to teach local children to be healthy and active and make wise choices in life through drug and alcohol education.
“We are very fortunate to have the support of Mr Thomas and many members of parliament across the state,” Ms Sloane said.
“I encourage schools throughout the electorate and across NSW to take up the opportunity, and make use of this important educational facility, by participating in the Healthy Harold program.”
