FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR BORDER INFRASTRUCTURE

Member for Lismore Thomas George today welcomed the establishment of the $20 million NSW Cross-Border Commissioner’s Infrastructure Fund to assist in the building of vital cross-border infrastructure.

Mr George said the NSW Government’s commitment to social, economic, environmental and cultural infrastructure in border areas was a fantastic initiative to boost growth and services in Tenterfield.

“This fund provides a wonderful opportunity for co-investment in significant infrastructure with Queensland, and an opportunity to put aside the traditional constraints under established funds.

“Priority projects such as improving electricity supply, developing telecommunications, accessing water supply or providing social and sporting infrastructure will be targeted, benefiting residents right across Lismore Mr George said.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the NSW Cross-Border Commissioner will work with communities in NSW and Queensland through established cross-border agreements to identify priority projects, and secure co-investment.

“The NSW Government is well aware of the numerous cross-border issues faced by residents in Jennings and hopes that a dedicated infrastructure fund will go some way to ensuring that the community gets its fair share,” he said.

“There’s already good work happening in the cross-border regions, as we work towards the further reduction in regulatory duplication, the recognition of skills and training and easing planning and development processes, and this fund is a positive addition.”

Projects must be located in local government areas of NSW and neighbouring jurisdictions which are adjacent to a NSW border. Applications will be invited in the coming months.
