$254,000 BRINGS A NEW BOUNCE TO LISMORE BASKETBALL STADIUM

Member for Lismore, Thomas George today announced $254,000 in funding to breathe new life into Lismore Basketball Stadium through round two of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

The money will fund the stadium’s insulation, new backboards, floor sanding and refurbishment as well as improvements to external fencing and the carpark.

Mr George said these upgrades will increase community’s access to the facility, bringing it up to regional standards.

“This redevelopment will change the face of Lismore basketball, not only improving facilities but increasing spectator capacity to 500 people, making the stadium more attractive for regional events.

“Once the projects complete the stadium will able to be adapted to accommodate other sporting codes, with competitions able to be played all year around,” he said

Works on the basketball stadium will complement the NSW Government’s $6.9 million dollar investment of the Albert Park Baseball Precinct, transforming the area into a major sports precinct.

The Department of Education runs low-cost, combined High School North Coast basketball events at the stadium and these upgrades will further this partnership by facilitating greater youth participation in the sport.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the roll out of the second round projects takes Stronger Country Communities funding to $300 million.

“I congratulate Lismore City Council and look forward to the local sports and community facility improvements that will make the region an even more attractive place to work and raise a family,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The $300 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.6 billion Regional Growth Fund that is employing local tradies, putting local suppliers to work and providing the right environment to operate regional businesses,” he said.
