NSW WOMEN’S WEEK COMING TO LISMORE
The Northern Rivers is set to celebrate the first NSW Women’s Week, with three events to promote and support local women and girls coming to Lismore in 2019.
Member for Lismore, Thomas George announced Richmond Landcare Inc, Slippery Sirkus Inc and the Australian Breastfeeding Association Far North Coast Branch have received NSW Government funding to host events.
“Richmond Landcare Inc has been allocated $4,770 to host a bush regeneration and natural resource management program, while Slippry Sirkus will use $4,500 to host a music festival, showcasing local female performers. On the 3rd of March the Australian Breastfeeding Association will host a focus day, supporting women who are returning to work and still breast feeding.”
“We want women to have every opportunity to achieve their social and economic goals and these local events will help women to do just that,” Mr George said.
NSW Women’s Week is coming to the North Coast with the intent of challenging outdated perceptions about women and girls, celebrate their achievements and provide practical support to help them succeed in whatever they choose to do.
The local events are three of 32 activities during NSW Women’s Week that will focus on the three priorities areas of the NSW Women’s Strategy 2018-2022; women’s economic opportunity and advancement, health and wellbeing, and participation and empowerment.
NSW Women’s Week will be held to celebrate International Women’s Day from 3 to 9 March 2019. For more information, visit: www.women.nsw.gov.au/nsw-womens-week
