Health Services Crisis

On Tuesday, I met with Dr Michael Levitt, Deputy Chairman of the NSW Committee of Management for the Australian Society of Anaesthetists, who was able to advise of his submission of an offer, which he believes is fair and reasonable, to Dan Madden and Denise Fletcher. I am hopeful the North Coast Area Heath Service can accept this offer to enable the return of `normal' health services to this region. Constituents have been reinforcing to me that this issue needs to be resolved promptly, however we still have a lot of work to do to achieve a suitable outcome in regards to the under funding of the health services in this area, which has been a continual problem for a number of years now. As part of the ongoing representations, a health delegation including Member for Ballina, Don Page, Mayor Merv King, Dr Chris Ingall and myself, are seeking a meeting with the Health Minister, The Hon John Hatzistergos, in the next week to highlight the community's view achieve amicable resolution of this issue.

Broadband for Bonalbo

Internet users in Bonalbo can now speed up their downloads following Telstra's upgrade of the Bonalbo exchange with broadband ADSL. I understand the Bonalbo Community Transaction Centre was promoting the demand register and encouraging others to register leading to the exchange upgrade.

Electorate functions -

Lismore RSL Sub-Branch - I joined with members of the community and servicemen for the Commemorative Service and celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II and Victory in the Pacific. A very enjoyable luncheon and presentation of medals followed the march and it was my honour to be present on this extremely important and significant national remembrance service.

Health & Herb Festival - this annual event enables the showcasing of various exhibits from crafts, health alternatives and food. I enjoyed the informative talks, health and recreational activities, as well as the appreciation of food and entertainment all from our region.

Legends Friday Club - I called in briefly to the Lismore Masters Games Friday Club and meet various participants as well as viewing the games merchandise.

Mallanganee Campdraft - Rural activities such as this highlights the importance of events to provide fellowship that is beneficial to people living in country communities. Congratulations to the organisers and competitors on such a successful weekend.

Safe Driver Training - it was my pleasure to be invited to the driver training school which was attended by a number of students from Kadina High School. It was clearly evident that students were eager to learn and within the first 1 hours it was clearly evident that they had already gained valuable knowledge.

Ex-Marist Mothers Association - I was honoured to host this function that supports students who require extra assistance to enable them to re-enter the school system.
