Recognition for Country Coaches and Officials

Recognition for Country Coaches and Officials

I was pleased to be advised of an allocation of $4,845 to 7 individual sports people under the 2003 Country Coaches & Officials Scheme. Such recognition to country athletes in the Lismore electorate by the Minister for Sport & Recreation is testimony to the talent and scope of ability in rural areas. The Scheme is vital in its role in assisting with the expenses that many rural people are faced with. The following people have received funding as a contribution to expenses to access opportunities to participate in education courses that assist them in gaining or maintaining required accreditation:

Tony Marsh
Krystal Gollen
Christopher Breen
Christopher Behan
Mahala Klotz
Sharon Williamson
Stephen Clough

$65,038 Casino Community Benefit Fund

I was pleased to be advised that the Lismore electorate was allocated $65,038 under this scheme with the funds primary objective to fund gambling-related treatment such as counselling and rehabilitation services, research projects and other activities designed to minimise harm associated with gambling in the community.

Casino on a Roll

During Parliament last week, I had the opportunity of highlighting local electorate events which indicate prosperity and that my home town of Casino is certainly on a roll. Our town has just experienced one of the busiest months in its history, with three promotions one after the other. The first was a week-long rally held by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia [CMCA]. Some 1,400 members arrived in motor homes and stayed on one site to enjoy the rally and activities in the community. They had the opportunity to view the nicest part of New South Wales, which surrounds Casino, in which we are privileged to live. As a past president of Casino Beef Week, past member of the Casino Chamber of Commerce and now the local member, I was proud of the successful twenty-second Casino Beef Week, which was the next event to have been held. Casino Beef Week promotes the beef industry, on which the town was originally built. Approximately 15,000 people attended and saw the commercial float parade, a parade of stud beef cattle and horse-drawn vehicles, and other activities on the main street of Casino. Many of them attend each year to promote and be part of Casino Beef Week. And last but by no means the very least, the well-established Primex Rural Trade Expo was held. This event was originally established 19 years ago by John Wright from Exhibition Marketing and is now capably carried on by his son, Bruce, and other members of the family. One could find whatever one needed for a house, farm, property or business from the 600 exhibitors at the Primex show. John had the vision and the belief that Primex would grow to the extent that it has this year, in its nineteenth year. It is now the envy of other agricultural displays held throughout the eastern States. I am extremely proud of the Casino community for supporting and promoting these three events, which have made Casino the envy of other communities.
