Workers' Compensation Premiums

The Kyogle News September 99

With a recess from Parliament, the month of August gave me the chance to devote time to electorate commitments including; visiting Urbenville and Kyogle re: Multi Purpose Service facilities with The Rt Hon Ian Sinclair, attending a State Forests meeting in Woodenbong, Ag-Quip in Gunnedah and the opening of the passing lane at Cedar Point. In August, we had three Minister's visit the electorate being:

The Hon John Watkins, Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Fair Trading,
The Hon Sandra Nori, Minister for Small Business
and The Hon Jeff Shaw, Attorney General

Workers' Compensation Premiums

I am currently seeking information from regional employers about their workers' compensation insurance. The Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations Michael Gallacher and I are concerned that regional employers are paying more than they should. The aim of collecting details is to document cases and develop policy as part of the reform process. Please forward specific circumstances, concerns or problems to support our action to facilitate reform.

AVO's Proposed to Change

I am pleased that a discussion paper has been prepared by the Attorney-General's Department which includes a proposal to charge applicants for Apprehended Violence Orders (AVO's). Problems have been created in the AVO system since the Carr Government removed the discretion of judges and magistrates to rule on the legitimacy of AVOs. The discussion paper provides the opportunity to express your concerns about AVO's.
