The Kyogle News August 00
The heartening story about Andrew Hart of Tabulam highlighted the
schemes available to rural students interested in medicine and the scholarships
that encourage their return to rural or remote areas. A new Website
has been launched that offers rural students a one-stop shop information
on health scholarships. Locally the Dr Vasan Rural Medical Memorial
Scholarship Fund realises a similar personal vision of the late Dr Vasan.
Capital Assistance Program Forms Available
Guidance notes and application forms for the 2000/2001 Capital
Assistance Program (CAP) with closing date of 25 August, 2000 are
available from my office.

pesticides legislation. The prosecutable offences definition has been
widened and prima facie case can be sufficient to incur penalties
instead of the need to prove intent or a lack of reasonable care.
Presently, I am pursuing assistance for the safe disposal of out of
date chemicals. Furthermore, there are subsidies available for people
wishing to undertake educational farm pesticide courses.
Sport Smart Development Workshops
The North Coast Academy of Sport is running a local workshop at
the Southern Cross University on 6 August 2000. The workshop is aimed

and coaches are encouraged, cost is $20 for athletes and $10 for adults.
Further enquiries can be made through the Academy office on 6620 3073.
Country City Network
Recently, I attended the official launch of the newest branch of
the NSW Farmers Association, the Country City Network (CCN). The
network is designed to bring together young professionals in Sydney who
all share a rural background. CCN aims to bring together people with
common interests in rural and regional issues and to formulate ideas
that may be channelled through the NSW Farmers Association's Youthlink
