Local Area Assistance Grants

A total of $71,500 was allocated to the Lismore electorate under the 2001/02 Area Assistance Scheme. The following local successful applicants were:

$15,000 to Kyogle Home and Community Care to establish an office, develop and implement a training program for volunteers to help terminally ill people and their families.

$6,000 to Bentley Community Preschool to build a perimeter fence around the playground at Bentley Hall.

The aim of the AAS is to build the capacity of the community and local councils to deal with the challenges of change.

Local projects benefit from $102,400

Following representations to the Premier, for maintenance funding for local halls, The Premier recently announced $50,000 for 12 community halls in the Kyogle area. This one-off allocation will be used to provide emergency maintenance and equipment to the halls in the district. Repairing roofs and windows or installing disabled facilities are just a few examples of jobs that will make a real difference for the benefit of the townspeople.

Further to this $30,000 has been directed to the Kyogle Family Support Service to provide a Community Worker (Parenting) Service. The service will work through an established community-based agency to build on existing community supports with the aim of strengthening parental knowledge and capacity. It will focus on integrating the service into the community to create high accessibility.
