2001 Seniors Week

The Kyogle News March 01

Recently I had the opportunity to travel West of the Range and be available to speak with residents from Urbenville, Woodenbong, Bonalbo, Old Bonalbo, Grevillia, Wiangaree and attend a DTRAC meeting in Legume.

2001 Seniors Week

Seniors Week 2001 "Share the Experience" will be held from 18-25 March.  Local successful projects include:

$400 Casino/Kyogle HACC Flexible Service

$400 Kyogle & Citizens Sunshine Club

$400 Nimbin Health & Welfare Association Inc

Congratulations to all organisations and I hope that the celebrations are enjoyed by all.

Dairy Committee Visits

This gathering was well attended by local dairy farmers, Norco representatives and other interested parties, who left the Committee with no doubt that deregulation has had a devastating effect in this area and will flow on to affect many others.  All tiers of government need to support dairy farmers and Norco in surviving this critical time.

Win For Graziers

Following my representations to the Minister for Agriculture, a delay has been achieved in the implementation of a controversial announcement to charge producers for the chemicals that are used under the NSW Agriculture's tick eradication program.  This announcement that was outlining a plan, which also implied was acting in response to the Board of Tick Control (BTC) views, was quickly rejected by the producer members of the BTC.  Furthermore, this decision flew in the face of assurances from the Department who advised a meeting in Casino late last year that the Minister and NSW Agriculture would not be walking away from the tick eradication program.

Rural Health Scholarships

I would like to advise local students, that have graduated or current year 12 students, of scholarships available through the NSW Rural Doctors Network website, www.nswrdn.com.au.  This site advises of assistance to study health courses at universities, listing many disciplines.
